Health Policy & Management (HPM)
Health Policy & Management (HPM) at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health prepares students to navigate complex healthcare environments. With a focus on mentorship, hands-on experience, and professional development, HPM students engage in real world problem-solving and leadership, becoming ambitious leaders who will shape the future of public health.
Degrees offered:
• MPH (full-time, accelerated, 4+1, executive options)
• MHA (full-time, part-time hybrid and executive options)
• MS (full-time, beginning Fall 2027)
HPM's mission is simple: to lead in the effort to produce better, fairer, more efficient and effective ways to protect and preserve health. HPM research and teaching are grounded in the belief that policymakers need to understand how health systems work, and managers need to understand the macro policy environment in which they operate.
The HPM Difference
- Our students are supported by a comprehensive mentorship network that includes academic, professional, and faculty advisors, as well as numerous opportunities to connect, network, and build lasting relationships. We also offer countless opportunities to network and connect.

The Department's unique Health System Simulation enables students to experience the challenges of executive leadership and strategic decision making in a competitive, multi-hospital environment. In our Consulting Practice, students solve strategic, policy, marketing, or operational problems for a client organization, gaining real-world, project-based skills to prepare students for a profession in management consulting.
- The department leads the entrepreneurship efforts at the Columbia Mailman School. These initiatives connect at the intersection of innovation, education, health systems, and public health.
